Parents’ Storm and Stress Beliefs about Adolescence: Relations with Parental Overprotection and Parental Burnout

In society and its mass media, adolescence is typically portrayed as a disruptive rebellious stage of life (“Storm Stress”). Previous research suggests that the parental adherence to these negative Storm Stress beliefs about are persistent predict subsequent “Storm Stress” behaviours among their adolescent children. However, way may impact parenting experience being parent remains unclear understudied. This study examined associations between parents’ burnout well explored potential mediating role overprotection in this association. Using an Actor-Partner Interdependence Partial Mediation Model, we 146 mother-father dyads (N = 292 parents) adolescents. Results indicated mothers fathers who adhered more strongly were likely exhibit higher levels burnout. These partially mediated by for both fathers. The strength pathways found be similar no partner effect was observed. results suggest countering beneficial quality parent.
